MEXICO AND CANADA WORK JOINTLY FOR THE HEALTH OF OTTAWA'S LATIN AMERICAN COMMUNITY

The Embassy of Mexico in Canada, the Institute of Mexicans Abroad, the Mexican-Canadian Cultural Association of the Ottawa-Gatineau Region, the Mexican Ministry of Health, Health Canada, the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and the University of Ottawa are organizing the First Mexico-Canada Bi-National Health Week, which will take place October 12 to 15, 2005.

During this event, a series of conferences will be held in the CHEO Auditorium (401 Smyth Road, Ottawa) at 5:00 pm on the 12, 13 and 14 of October, with the purpose of providing members of the Latin American community with information on how to maintain and improve their health by learning about and utilizing the various resources offered by Canada's federal and provincial authorities. On Saturday, October 15 there will be a Health Fair, with information available on hygiene and nutrition, taking into account the Canadian climate and foods available at local markets. Various options for physical activity will be presented, corresponding to the different seasons, and geared towards improving physical and mental health. Information will also be available on the illnesses Latin Americans are most prone to, as well as preventative measures and timely diagnoses, amongst other topics. The conferences will be completely free and open to the entire Spanish-speaking community.

A Press Conference will be held on Wednesday, September 21 at 3:00 pm, hosted by the Embassy of Mexico in Ottawa (45 O'Connor St. Suite 1000) with the support of the Latin American consular representatives, in order to provide details on the event.
